Chardham Yatra refers to a spiritual pilgrimage to the four most revered shrines in the Indian Himalayas, which are considered highly sacred in Hinduism. The journey is a deep spiritual experience, and it holds immense religious significance.
Located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, Yamunotri is dedicated to the goddess Yamuna, one of the major rivers in India. The temple is situated at an altitude of 3,293 meters (10,804 feet) and is the source of the Yamuna River, nestled in the beautiful Yamunotri Valley.
Also in Uttarkashi, Gangotri is the site where the holy river Ganges is believed to have originated. The Gangotri temple is situated at an elevation of 3,042 meters (9,980 feet) on the banks of the river. It is dedicated to Goddess Ganga and is considered one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Hindus.
Located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, Kedarnath is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Kedarnath Temple sits at an altitude of 3,583 meters (11,755 feet) and is surrounded by snow-capped mountains, making it one of the most visually stunning and spiritually powerful pilgrimage destinations.
Situated in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, Badrinath is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is one of the 108 Divya Desams, the holiest of Vishnu temples. The temple lies at an altitude of 3,133 meters (10,279 feet) and is considered the most important of the four Dhams. It is especially famous for the idol of Lord Badrinath, which is believed to be self-manifested.
The best time for Chardham Yatra is between May and October when the weather is relatively pleasant and the roads are open. The temples are closed for the winter season due to heavy snow from November to April.
